Why Hifahamu

A safari is not a list of animals.

Anyone can drive you to the Serengeti. What you remember afterwards is whether someone told you what you were looking at.

Hifahamu Safari was founded in Arusha in 2025 by Agrey William Matowo, who still plans every trip the company runs. The name comes from the Swahili for understanding something properly, and that is the whole idea. Our guides are from northern Tanzania. They know which track the lions moved along last week, why the wildebeest are where they are this month, and what the Maasai family at the roadside is actually doing. They would rather stop the vehicle and explain something than race to the next sighting.

We are deliberately small. Groups stay small, you deal with one person from your first message to the day you fly home, and nothing about your trip is handled by someone who has never spoken to you.

Why travel with us

  1. 01

    The founder plans your trip

Agrey plans every safari the company runs. The person who answers your first message is the person who builds your itinerary and who you call if something changes.

  2. 02

    Guides who explain

Our guides are from northern Tanzania and are there to teach you the country, not just to find the animals and point at them.

  3. 03

    Small groups only

We cap group sizes so that everyone has a window seat and a clear view through the roof hatch. Nobody is sitting in the middle of a full row.

  4. 04

    Honest planning

If your dates, your budget and your wish list do not fit together, we will tell you before you book rather than after. Sometimes that means suggesting a shorter trip.

  5. 05

    We are here

Our office is in Arusha, not overseas. When something needs solving at seven in the morning on the Ngorongoro rim, somebody local is solving it.

  6. 06

    One conversation, start to finish

No handovers between departments. No ticket numbers. The same person, from the first enquiry to the airport transfer home.

The process

How a trip comes together

Four steps, no obligation at any point.

  1. 01

    Tell us what you want

Fill in the planning form or send a WhatsApp message. Dates, how long you have, what you most want to see.

  2. 02

    We build you an itinerary

Within one working day you get a proposed route, the camps we recommend, and a full price with everything itemised. If it is not right, we rework it.

  3. 03

    Confirm with a deposit

A thirty percent deposit secures your dates and your camps. The balance is due sixty days before you travel.

  4. 04

    We take it from there

Park permits, camp bookings, transfers, your guide. You arrive, and everything is already arranged.

Tell us what you want to see.

There is no fixed menu here. Tell us your dates, how long you have, and what matters most to you, and we will put together a safari built around that. You will have a reply within a day, written by the person who will plan your trip.
