The safari
The most overlooked park in northern Tanzania, forty minutes from Arusha, and the only one on the circuit where you are allowed to get out and walk.
Arusha National Park sits on the slopes of Mount Meru and packs an unlikely amount into a small area: the Ngurdoto Crater, montane forest full of black and white colobus, and the Momela Lakes where flamingos gather beneath the mountain. On a clear morning Kilimanjaro stands on the horizon behind it.
This is the right trip for a spare day, for a first day while you adjust to the altitude and the time zone, or for anyone whose schedule will not stretch to a full safari.
Priced per person on enquiry, based on your dates, group size and choice of accommodation.
The day
Collected from your Arusha hotel. Drive to the Ngongongare Gate, roughly forty minutes.
Enter the park. Game drive through the montane forest, watching for colobus, blue monkey and bushbuck, and continue to the Ngurdoto Crater rim viewpoints.
Drive on to the Momela Lakes circuit. Giraffe, buffalo, warthog, zebra and waterbuck, with flamingo and a very wide range of waterbirds on the lakes.
Picnic lunch at a designated site overlooking the lakes.
Optional walking safari with an armed ranger, or optional canoeing on Small Momela Lake. Both are quoted separately and must be booked in advance.
Depart the park and return to Arusha.
Drop off at your hotel.
There are no lions in Arusha National Park, which is precisely why walking is allowed.
Accommodation
Every safari is quoted at one of three levels, and you can mix them across a single trip. We will name the exact camps in your quotation, chosen for your route and your dates.

Permanent tented camps and lodges with ensuite bathrooms, hot water and full board. The option most guests choose.
